Mood

Mood disorders – anxiety, depression, and bipolar – are some of the most common conditions that people contend with.  Given the stresses of today’s world, this is not surprising.  Mood symptoms often suggest a need to address underlying psychological issues resulting from trauma, relationship, work, societal, or spiritual sources.  The need for mental health is great and often inadequately responded to.  The need for spiritual/energetic healing is also often unrecognized, see more on this here.

Mood disorders may also be impacted by contributing factors – nutrient deficiencies, gut issues, hormonal imbalance, metabolic and dietary issues, and chronic infection or other illness.  As such, an integrative approach can be helpful in remediating them.  This is what mind/body medicine is about.

Sometimes the symptoms of mood disorder are too overwhelming to allow a person to work through the underlying psychological issues.  In such cases, some type of biological support may be helpful, ideally on a temporary basis while the underlying issues are addressed.  Medications can be useful in this regard, but so can herbs and supplements, which often are effective and have lower risk of adverse effects and dependence.

In our practice, we approach mood disorders from a mind and body perspective, using herbs, supplements and medications as needed, with compassion and listening as the foundation of our caring.
